Invisalign® takes a modern approach to straightening teeth, using aligners designed and manufactured exclusively for you. These aligner trays are made of smooth, sleek, and nearly invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. When you wear the aligners, they will slowly and gently shift your teeth into position, depending on how your dentist plans for you. No metal brackets attached, no wires. You just pop a new pair of aligners about every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. The best part of the whole process is that most people won’t even notice that your teeth are being straightened.

In addition to reduced visual impact, the Invisalign® alignment tray can be temporarily removed at critical times. The ability to remove aligners allows for proper brushing and flossing. This is much easier than trying to clean traditional brackets and cables.

What kind of bite problems can Invisalign® correct?

Invisalign® corrects the almost all of the same dental problems as traditional metal braces, the only difference is that Invisalign® trays are almost invisible to the naked eye, and can be removed at will.

Here are some problems that are commonly corrected with Invisalign®:
This occurs when there is too little space for the teeth to align normally in the mouth. Overcrowding can cause tooth decay and increase the likelihood of gum disease.
This can be genetic or sometimes occurs because teeth are missing or because the jaw continues to grow abnormally.
This common dental problem occurs when one or multiple upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth. As a consequence, uneven wear can lead to bone erosion and gum disease.
This problem occurs when the upper teeth project further than, or completely cover, the lower teeth. Eventually, jaw pain and TMJ may occur.
This is the inverse of the overbite; the lower teeth project further than, or completely cover, the upper teeth. Eventually, jaw pain and TMJ can occur.

What advantages does Invisalign® offer over traditional braces and veneers?

Traditional braces, Invisalign® alignment trays, and dental veneers are three different ways to improve alignment. There are many different factors to consider when deciding which treatment will be best, and each of these options works well in certain situations.

Invisalign® differs from traditional braces in that the alignment trays are completely removable. This means more discipline and commitment is required from the patient. This is usually not a problem because the trays are sleek and nearly invisible. Either treatment can be used to achieve nearly identical results.

Invisalign® is superior to veneers in many cases because, unlike veneers, Invisalign® actually straightens teeth. Veneers are thin materials that stick to teeth. The teeth must be ready to receive veneers so the procedure is irreversible. Like all dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may need to be replaced at some point.

What are some considerations when wearing Invisalign® trays?

Life with an Invisalign® alignment tray will take time to get used to. The tray should be worn at all times except when eating and drinking. It is important to remove the tray when serving food or drinks because food can get stuck between the teeth of the tray, which can cause tooth decay.

For most patients, aligners are changed every 7-14 days and progress can be seen visually between appointments. The use of Invisalign® aligning trays has without a doubt transformed orthodontics. Invisalign® is known for its comfort and efficiency.

Retention is necessary once the active Invisalign treatment is finished. You will be made clear retainers to maintain the tooth position you have achieved. It is extremely important to know that retention is a lifetime commitment if you want to maintain any orthodontic result.
